i'm back!

Writing publicly is something that I have been meaning to do for over a year now, but have not managed to actually follow through with (i.e. —> 2 blog posts up in the past year, whoops).

I attribute a portion of this inconsistency and disorganization to a couple of reservations I have about writing online.

One source of deterrence stems from the fact that I can’t quite define who the audience I’m writing for is. Should these posts be more life updates for friends, filled with nods and jokes that only they would understand? Or should these pieces be written for a broader audience in mind, consumable by any passerby?

There also is a concern around increasing my digital footprint. Being an ever-evolving human being, it is inevitable that I’m going to look back and cringe at the things that I was writing about, and it’s slightly mortifying that publishing myself online means inviting others to also cringe with me. In fact, the two blogs I have up so far have preachy undertones that I already dislike. Some part of me wants to scrub these pieces from the internet, but I also recognize that these pieces are remnants of what I thought was worth writing about at that point in time, so for now, they will stay.

Also, because I have little faith that I will be proactive enough to go back and prune old pieces or update my stances on particular topics, I’m concerned about people (especially people who don’t actually know me) finding old writings of mine with opinions I do not hold anymore.

That’s really it. And now that I have enumerated all my concerns that have been floating around in my brain, I’m realizing that most of these concerns are non-problems for now.

So, we trek ahead. Substack shall be a hub for me to write about things I find amusing, bizarre, or outrageous. Things that excite me or that I want to learn more about. Perhaps some half-baked rants here and there or otherwise noteworthy revelations.

One big source of motivation for writing online is that I’m intrigued by the idea of using this platform as a means for the people I want to find to find me. Some auxiliary goals would be that I am able to delight others with with my musings.

This was an all too long-winded way to basically say I’m back.
